The Inspiration

The Eyes of the Lord was originally never meant to leave the walls of my home or the cab of my truck. For years, it was just a small, devoted circle—me, my son, my daughter, and a few close friends. Together, we prepped meals in my kitchen and packed to-go plates alongside winter blankets, each neatly rolled and tied with ribbons of scripture. Every National Slurpee Day, we’d head to local 7-Elevens to hand out cold drinks and supplies to those braving the summer heat, grateful to serve 20 to 30 people at a time.

Driven to do more, we initially reached out to official organizations for support, but were turned away because we weren't a recognized entity. I eventually felt called to start a nonprofit in 2024, but I hesitated, waiting for a confirmation from God that didn't seem to come. I was ready to let the dream go, praying simply that if it was His will, it would happen in His time.

That confirmation arrived through a reconnection with a former coworker, Derrick Mickens. We had always shared a deep passion for service—helping the needy, creating jobs, hosting neighborhood Bible studies, and even rescuing animals. When we reconnected, the spark was still there. Derrick looked at me and said, "Let’s do this! Let’s make a positive difference in people’s lives!" Today, we stand together as dedicated servant leaders, committed to the Lord’s work and to those who need it most.
